The Chicago White Sox are keeping family fun part of their atmosphere with the introduction of two new suites in advance of the 2019 home baseball season. The White Sox open their home season April 4 against the Seattle Mariners with a Nursing Room for moms and a Sensory Friendly Room as part of the amenities at Guaranteed Rate Field.
The Nursing Room is located near Section 352 and accessible from the Revolution Brewing #SoxSocial Lounge. It includes four plush chairs, a changing station and electrical outlets for moms who have pumping equipment. The room is climate controlled—in case the temps outside are brutally cold or hot—and has a TV so fans, young and adult, can keep up with the game.
Thanks to a collaboration with KultureCity, which certifies sensory inclusion, the White Sox created a Sensory Room on the suite level that includes a weighted blanket, textured walls, sensory lighting and a cushy floor. There is field-view access off of the suite for siblings or family with interest in watching the game.
The Sox staff received training to spot guests with sensory needs, those with autism, dementia or PTSD, and accommodate those needs. Sensory bags from KultureCity containing noise-canceling headphones, fidget tools and verbal cue cards are available at Guest Services on each level.
