Spring has sprung and Brookfield Zoo Chicago is celebrating with a new family event! From April 12-13, the zoo will host its first-ever Spring Fest, a weekend-long celebration that combines the wonders of nature with music, crafts and one-of-a-kind animal encounters.
With April being Earth Month, the zoo has lots of plans with the return of their popular Ferris wheel, other spring events like Brunch with the Bunny and Mother’s Day Brunch. Here is why you should definitely should add their new Spring Fest to your April plans.

What families can expect at Brookfield Zoo’s Spring Fest
With some of Spring Fest’s free activities included in the zoo general admission, it’s the perfect weekend adventure for families looking to shake off winter and dive into the season of sunshine, animals and fresh air. Here are some wild and wonderful experiences you won’t want to miss:
- Make nature-inspired crafts. Families can find activities at Brookfield Zoo’s Spring Colors and Wild Impressions stations. Create butterfly finger puppets at the Hamill Family Play Zoo, color in vibrant animal designs and more.
- Eat Rainbow Cone. The zoo is launching a new partnership with The Original Rainbow Cone, so you can pick up the iconic Chicago treat on the East Mall.
- Attend free zoo chats. Scheduled throughout the weekend, learn more about your favorite Brookfield Zoo animal residents like turtles, koalas and sea lions.
- Enjoy springtime attractions. For an extra fee, families can enjoy rides on the carousel and Ferris wheel, or face painting and caricatures at Kaman’s Art.
- Go shopping. Stroll through the Spring Fest Art Fest Fair, showcasing stunning pieces for sale by local artists.
