Chicago-area closings due to extremely cold weather

Chicagoland will be facing record-low temperatures this week, especially on Wednesday and Thursday. Be aware that the following places in Chicago and the suburbs will be closed this week. We’ll keep updating this page when new information comes in:

• • Several Chicagoland schools and daycare centers have closed on Wednesday and Thursday, including many universities and Chicago Public Schools. You can find a full list on the EmergencyClosingCenter.com or check with your child’s school for more details.

• • Some public libraries and their programs may be closed on Wednesday and Thursday. Please check with your local library to see if it’s open.

• • Adler Planetarium will be closed on Wednesday and Thursday.

• • The Art Institute of Chicago will be closed on Wednesday.

• • Brookfield Zoo will be closed on Wednesday and Thursday. They plan to reopen on Friday.

• • Chicago Architecture Center exhibits will be closed on Wednesday and open at noon on Thursday. All tours are canceled on Tuesday, Wednesday and Thursday.

• • Chicago Botanic Garden will be closed on Wednesday and Thursday.

• • The Chicago Children’s Museum will be closed on Wednesday. They will reopen on Thursday at 4 p.m.

• • The Chicago History Museum will be closed on Wednesday and Thursday.

• • The Children’s Museum in Oak Lawn will be closed on Wednesday.

• • The Discovery Center Museum will be closed on Wednesday and Thursday.

• • The DuSable Museum of African American History will be closed on Wednesday and Thursday.

• • The DuPage Children’s Museum will be closed on Wednesday. It will reopen on Thursday at noon.

• • The Field Museum will close early on Tuesday at 2 p.m. (Last admission at 1 p.m.). They will be closed on Wednesday and Thursday.

• • The Illinois Holocaust Museum & Education Center will be closed on Wednesday.

• • The Ice Castles at Lake Geneva will be closed on Wednesday.

• • Kohl Children’s Museum will be closed on Wednesday.

• • Lincoln Park Zoo will close early on Tuesday at 3 p.m. They will be closed on Wednesday and Thursday.

• • Lizzadro Museum of Lapidary Art will be closed on Wednesday.

• • Maggie Daley Park Skating Ribbon will be closed on Tuesday, Wednesday and Thursday.

• • The Museum of Contemporary Art will be closed on Wednesday and Thursday.

• • The Museum of Science & Industry, Chicago will be closed on Wednesday and Thursday.

• • The National Museum of Mexican Art will be closed on Wednesday.

• • Navy Pier will be closed on Wednesday.

• • The Peggy Notebaert Nature Museum will be closed on Wednesday and Thursday.

• • Shedd Aquarium will be closed on Wednesday and Thursday.

• • If you have tickets or plan to go to an event listed on our calendar, check with the host to make sure the event is not canceled.
