Grandma’s Passover charoset

Older kids can help peel the apples while younger kids will love pressing the buttons on the food processor. Get your kids to stir in the nuts and add the honey and kosher wine. Decide together when it is sweet enough.

Ingredients

  • 3 ounces slivered almonds*
  • 6 ounces black walnut pieces*
  • 3 red apples, peeled, cored and quartered
  • Honey
  • Kosher red wine

Directions

Chop nuts coarsely and place in a large bowl. Place the apples in a food processor and process until they resemble a chunky apple sauce. Combine the apples with the chopped nuts. Add honey and kosher wine to taste. Refrigerate.

Note: This recipe is best made 12-24 hours ahead of time.

*If you have a child with nut allergies, make a special batch of charoset with raisins in place of the nuts.
