Go from zero to hero in your kids’ eyes when you make plans to see A Whole New World of Alan Menken at the Auditorium Theatre later this month.
Menken is the man behind the music for Disney classics like The Little Mermaid, Hercules, Aladdin, Beauty and the Beast, Tangled and Pocahontas. He’s also behind Broadway hits such as Little Shop of Horrors and Newsies.
Whether your family is full of Disney devotees, Broadway babies or merry music makers, this performance is a must-see.
You may know Menken’s music, but you should also know that he has won eight Oscars (four for Best Score and four for Best Song), 11 Grammys and a Tony Award.
His talent will be on full display in this one-man, one-night show at the Auditorium during which he will perform some of his most-loved songs and shares stories from his life and career.
Menken starts where most good stories do, at the beginning and his first job working on Sesame Street. Performing and playing piano, he will share his contributions to the Disney music cannon chronologically and may even share a wee bit about his work on the forthcoming Aladdin live-action movie.
It’s not every day you can see a Disney Legend in person. (Menken achieved Disney Legend status in 2001.)
Even if you aren’t a huge Disney fan, musicians of all age will appreciate hearing first-hand the experiences of a decorated member of the Songwriters Hall of Fame. His story can open up a whole new world of possibilities for aspiring artists and offer insight into some of the songs your whole family knows and loves.
