Get fit as a family while having fun in Rogers Park

Fall is definitely in the air these days! While I love spending snuggly days in with my family, we are seeking out ways to stay active too. And what better place to get started than in our city stomping grounds: the Rogers Park and West Ridge area? Here a few ideas for your crew!

Hit the outdoor tennis courts

Recently, on a crisp fall afternoon, we headed to the tennis courts at Indian Boundary Park. We had a blast! Instead of baking in the summer sun, we layered up a bit and enjoyed the cool fall air. My toddler chased balls with glee as leaves fell around him. The key to these courts is they are individually fenced in, so your family tennis party won’t bug more serious players nearby. Plus tennis court fences equal an instant toddler security system.

Play racquetball on a dreary day

Another option for racquet-related fun is at nearby Warren Park. They have racquetball courts that you can rent out by the hour. There is a fee per court per hour and you need to call ahead for court availability, but racquetball is such a great way to stay active and have fun too. It has a special place in my heart, because my husband taught me the ropes of the game when we started dating.

Ample free parking in a big lot makes this park convenient option for families.

Bonus activity: There is an indoor basketball court at this location too. There are some open hours for different ages, so I would suggest checking the website before heading over.

Take a dip in an indoor pool

The High Ridge YMCA is a neighborhood institution. I actually took my first swim lessons there back in the day! These days, the 27,443 square foot facility has a ton of ways for parents and kiddos to stay active. Members can enjoy the indoor swimming pool during parent/child swim lessons, Family Swim time or for a few solo laps to clear any parenting-related stress. This Y even offers free babysitting for your little ones! You’re welcome.

Bonus activity: Family Zumba. This Y has too many options for family activities to list here, but if you are interested in seeing if it is the right fit for your family, you can try it out three times before joining.

Fitness activities are an ideal way to laugh and spend quality time together. I hope your family enjoys a ton of active time this fall!
