9 Virtual Events to Make Memories this Mother’s Day

This year, Mother’s Day is all about togetherness, even when we can’t be together with our extended family. There are some great virtual events in the Chicago-area and nationally to make quarantine memories worthy on May 10.

Chicago-area

Miss Jamie’s Farm Mother’s Day Virtual Concert

When: May 10, 10 a.m.

Cost: $10 or pay what you can

Parents and kids can enjoy 30 minutes of songs from popular Chicago-area musician Miss Jamie on the Farm in a virtual concert hosted by Chicago Parent Magazine and Metro Parent Magazine. 

A Morning for Mom Virtual Celebration 

When: May 9, 11 a.m.

Cost: $10-$15

Join Bubbles Academy and Classic Kids Photography for a fun-filled morning of Music and Art while making a Mother’s Day picture frame gift for Mom. Families will also “Zoom” over to the Classic Kids Photography studio for some tips on taking a great family photo at home. Art supplies pack for contact-free pickup available. Recommended for ages 0-6.

BollyGroove Mother’s Day Virtual Dance Party

When: May 10, 10 a.m. or 3 p.m.

Cost: $15

Join moms from around the country as we all dance and celebrate motherhood together. Learn and dance to a cute routine with your kid. 

At Home with the Auditorium

When: May 10, 6 p.m.

Cost: Free

Watch dancers from Trinity Irish Dance Company perform “virtually.” Performances will include shout-outs for Mother’s Day. 

Mother’s Day Virtual Run/Walk

When: May 10

Cost: $20-$40

If you prefer to slow down the pace a little – or maybe you just want to earn the “Mom Strong” T-shirt – sign up for this virtual 5K, 10K or half-marathon. Money raised will be donated to WINGS, a program that originated in Schaumburg to help victims escape domestic violence. mothersdayrunwalk.com.

National

Mother’s Day Virtual Race

When: May 10

Cost: $22

Earn an awesome “vase of flowers” medal when you run a mile, 5K, 10K, half-marathon or marathon in this virtual race. You can run any time in May.

Cook with Mom: Online Livestream Pizza Making Class 

When: May 10, 12:30 p.m.

Cost: $20 individual, $25 pair

Kids and parents can learn to make pizza in an hour. Register for ingredients list and link to class.

Livestream Virtual Mother’s Day Painting Party

When: May 10, 2 p.m.

Cost: $20 individual, $30 pair.

Each mother-daughter or mother-son pair will create together one painting made of two paintings on two canvases: each person will paint on an individual canvas that will be the matching half to their partner’s painting, and vice versa. Recommended supplies: a canvas or canvas board, a big brush, a skinny brush, a water cup, paper towel, a plate, a pencil and an eraser, paint (blue, yellow, red, black, and white), and an apron or painting clothes. 

Virtual Mother’s Day Party

When: May 10, 6 p.m.

Cost: $30

Get all of your creative juices flowing and pot an aloe vera plant to add or start your collection. Register in advance to receive your plant before the party.
