Summer is the time for kids to pursue their passions, try new things, have fun and learn something they might not learn during the school year. At Summer@Latin, students engage in programs that encourage friendship, fun and immersive learning through hands-on activities.
Kids don’t have to be students at Latin to participate in summer programming, and there are fun things to do for preschoolers through teenagers. Get to know all that Summer@Latin has to offer.
Gain confidence and learn something, too
Summer@Latin camps and classes are not only fun, they can even be life changing. Campers and students gain confidence and learn skills that help them develop into confident learners and empathetic leaders.
Last summer, Summer@Latin was able to bring back their in-person camps and classes. In Maker Camp: Sewing using Tech, students were able to have a space to explore all that was possible beyond a traditional needle and thread — including working with materials such as a sewing machine, digital embroidery machine and laser cutter.
Through working with these tools, students were able to gain confidence as designers and capture insight into the design process. While everyone created their own pieces, all students were able to work collaboratively with each other and share the journey from idea sketch to finished product together.
A memorable project was the creation of bucket hats to stay cool in the summer heat. Whether this was a novel experience or something similar to what they had done before outside of camp, students worked from scratch with only sketches and raw materials to create their pieces. They created and stitched their original logos to their customized hats. They were challenged to let their imaginations run wild!
The Summer@Latin campers ended the week by proudly wearing their extraordinary designs around camp to share with the community.
