“It’s perfect for inquisitive kids who enjoy trying out instruments and learning new things,” says Sarah Ma, director of Merry Music Makers. “It’s fantastic for kids who are excited to explore music and get active in the pool.”

Kids also get the chance to make new friends, and is perfect for buddies to register together. “It’s a camp that’s even better with a friend,” she adds.

What do parents need to know?

Conveniently located at Edgewater Athletic Club near Kenmore Avenue, the camp is easily accessible from neighborhoods like Andersonville, Rogers Park, and Lakeview. Parents can take advantage of a handy loading zone for drop-offs.

  • Daily schedule: Camp runs from 9 AM to 3 PM, with mornings dedicated to music appreciation and interactive activities like “The Science of Sound or “Music by the Decades.” Afternoons include lunch outside at Loyola Park followed by swim time in EAC’s indoor pool, with a 4:1 child-to-instructor ratio for personalized attention and safety.
  • Flexible enrollment: With a cap of 18 kids per session, Summer Jam & Swim ensures a close-knit, community feel.
  • Each week is unique: Campers have new themed experiences each week, mid-June through mid-August. Families can sign up for just one week or multiple weeks, and there’s a discount for additional weeks. “We’ve already had families sign up for five weeks because it fits their schedule and price point, Ma shares. Plus, the camp offers easy week-switching options.
  • Swimming made safe and fun: The swimming portion is tailored to each child’s comfort level. “It’s a meet-them-where-they-are kind of swim camp, all about building confidence in the water at their own pace,” Ma explains. The pool’s shallow end starts at 3 feet, making it a safe and supportive environment for all skill levels.

Merry Music Makers offers more than just one camp, catering to kids of different ages and interests:

  • EAC Swim Camp for 4-5-year-olds: This half-day camp is perfect for younger children eager to splash and play while learning basic swimming skills. Although run by the Edgewater Athletic Club, registration is handled through Merry Music Makers’ website for convenience. “It’s all about letting 4- and 5-year-olds just be themselves while learning to swim,” says Ma.
  • It’s Showtime! theater camp for 10-14-year-olds: For older kids who love the spotlight, this camp focuses on acting, singing and choreography. Unlike traditional theater camps that focus on staging a single play, “It’s Showtime” hones performance skills that kids can take to school productions and beyond. “It’s all the best parts of theater — just the meat, none of the fluff,” Ma explains. The camp wraps up with a 20-minute showcase for family and friends, highlighting the skills developed throughout the week.
