During camps at Instituto Cervantes Chicago, Spanish is the language of high-fives, art tables, group games and memorable moments that make kids feel brave.
“Families immediately value our authentic and inclusive environment,” says David Rodríguez, Academic Services & Marketing Coordinator. “We pride ourselves on a philosophy that integrates linguistic, cultural and educational goals through every activity. By using qualified native-Spanish teachers, we provide a safe and professional atmosphere where language is learned through real-life situations rather than just a classroom setting.”
What are camp days like?
Instituto Cervantes Spring Break and summer camps for kids in pre-K through 8th grade run 9 a.m.-2 p.m. The idea is to connect Spanish words to real-life play throughout the day with:
- Morning activation: TPR (Total Physical Response) and creative movement to get campers moving.
- Creative and social blocks: Arts and crafts, theatre, music, dancing and games, all in Spanish.
- Collaboration: Small-group activities that build teamwork and real conversation.
Who thrives at Instituto Cervantes?
Camp structure supports a wide range of learners, including beginners, bilingual and heritage speakers, all placed according to age and proficiency.
“Campers who are curious, social and enjoy active learning thrive here,” Rodríguez says. “Because we adapt our content to each student’s age, cognitive stage and language skill, both the shy student and the high-energy child find success through our diverse activities.”
Will my child learn Spanish?
Instituto Cervantes calls its approach integrative, connecting language acquisition with traditions and the diversity of the Spanish-speaking world. “We don’t just teach words; we offer hands-on projects and unique activities like TPR and traditional Spanish games that build confidence and leave children with happy, lifelong memories,” Rodríguez says.
At home, kids speak new Spanish phrases and share games they’ve learned throughout their week at camp. “Parents often appreciate the boost in their child’s confidence and the genuine joy they show for learning a new language,” Rodríguez adds.
