How do early learning programs support children at each age?

Lincolnshire KinderCare Director Elaine West details programs from 6 weeks to 12 years old.

For many parents, choosing child care is one of the most important decisions they’ll ever make. It’s not just about finding a safe place for their child, it’s about discovering a space where learning, growth and curiosity can flourish from the very beginning.

That often leads to one of the first questions families ask: What ages do early learning programs support — and what does that look like in practice?

At KinderCare Learning Center in Lincolnshire, programs span from 6 weeks to 12 years old, carefully designed to meet children where they are developmentally. From infants to school-age children, each classroom is built to inspire curiosity, confidence and a lifelong love of learning.

“What sets KinderCare apart is that we offer child-centered learning, so we are play-based, and we also have a wonderful curriculum that has been developed over our 55 years of work in childcare,” says Lincolnshire KinderCare Director Elaine West.

“We work on cognitive skills, literacy, social development, physical activity and social skills, and each of the curricula are specifically developed for that particular age,” she adds.

Developmental stages at KinderCare Lincolnshire

  • At the infant stage (6 weeks-1 year), teachers provide gentle care focused on sensory exploration, bonding and foundational motor skills in a safe, comforting setting. Toddlers (1-2 years) begin discovering independence through movement, language and early problem-solving activities.
  • Preschool and pre-K classrooms (ages 3-5) emphasize hands-on learning, early literacy, social-emotional growth and kindergarten readiness, preparing children for the next step in their academic journey.
  • For school-age children (5-12 years), KinderCare offers before- and after-school programs that extend learning beyond the classroom through creative projects, homework support and social engagement with peers.

Parents are encouraged to schedule a tour of the Lincolnshire center to see age-appropriate classrooms in action, meet caring educators and discover how KinderCare’s nationally recognized curriculum nurtures the whole child — academically, emotionally and socially — at every stage.
