If you’re looking for a show that will delight both kids and adults alike this holiday season, look no further than the historic Paramount Theatre’s production of Disney’s Frozen the Broadway Musical. Directed by Trent Stork, this version of the beloved Disney tale offers a magical experience filled with vibrant visuals and powerful performances.

From the spectacular special effects to the heartwarming story of love and transformation, Disney’s Frozen the Broadway Musical at Paramount Theatre in Aurora, Illinois is a must-see for Chicago-area families. The show runs from Oct. 30, 2024 to Jan. 19, 2025 and tickets are available now.

“Our version of Frozen is about more than just magic and snowstorms. It’s about creating those moments where children and parents connect, where they share something truly special,” says Stork. “We’ve really leaned into the magic of Elsa’s powers, but it’s not just about the spectacle. It’s about creating an emotional experience that touches both kids and adults.”

Here are five reasons why Disney’s Frozen the Broadway Musical is the ultimate family outing this holiday season.

1. A new, nature-inspired take

Director Trent Stork brings a completely new and visually stunning approach to Elsa’s powers, with a special focus on nature-inspired effects that will leave your kids wide-eyed in wonder. Stork describes how they’ve envisioned Elsa’s abilities to celebrate winter, but with a twist.

“This isn’t just your typical icy blast of snow. It’s a full-blown celebration of the seasons that transforms the stage in breathtaking ways,” Stork explains. “Our sets will transport you.”

For those of you who love the songs from the movie, you’ll find those and more. “We’ve got all your favorites, plus the musical features new songs that you’ll find just as endearing,” Stork says.

2. Heartwarming themes of love and transformation

While the special effects are dazzling, Stork emphasizes that Disney’s Frozen the Broadway Musical isn’t just about snow and spectacle — it’s about the powerful emotional journey the characters undergo. “What we really want to show is how love can transform, how it can heal and bring people together,” Stork shares.

Parents will appreciate the deeper message of the show, which emphasizes the importance of family and self-love in a way that resonates with both kids and adults.

3. Strong, relatable characters for kids to look up to

This production of Disney’s Frozen the Broadway Musical offers some powerful role models, says Stork. They are particularly excited about the portrayal of Anna, who is an example of a strong and powerful Disney princess who also has flaws and fears.

“Anna is so incredibly funny, smart, vibrant and strong. I would want my daughter to grow up to be all those things,” they say. Anna’s bravery, humor and relatable awkwardness make her a character that children can admire and emulate.

Elsa, of course, remains a fan favorite, and Stork promises that this production’s Elsa and her rendition of the iconic song “Let It Go” will be nothing short of showstopping.

“We have a really special actor playing Elsa, with one of the most amazing voices I’ve ever heard,” Stork says. “She could sing ‘Let It Go’ in her sleep.”

4. Creative puppetry brings Olaf and Sven to life

One of the things that will excite kids the most is seeing their favorite characters — Olaf and Sven — brought to life in a whole new way, says Stork. In this production, both characters are portrayed through puppetry, but with a creative twist.

“Olaf and Sven are actor-manipulated puppets,” they explain. “It’s a fresh take and we have lots of creative ideas of what we can do with these puppets.”

Stork thinks that the puppetry adds a level of excitement for young audience members. “Kids will love seeing Olaf’s hilarious antics and Sven’s lovable personality in a way they’ve never seen before.”

5. Paramount Theatre’s holiday magic and welcoming atmosphere

The iconic Paramount Theatre itself is a key part of the Frozen experience, says Stork. The already-majestic Art Deco space is transformed into a winter wonderland, complete with holiday decorations and a giant, Frozen-themed Christmas tree. Stork encourages families to make the most of the festive atmosphere, Instagram-worthy photo ops and friendly vibe.

“Feel free to dress up and engage in the magic of the show in any way you want. Paramount is a very welcoming environment,” they share. “Arrive well in advance of the show so you can get some great pictures and soak in the holiday atmosphere.”

Also important for families of littles: Disney’s Frozen the Broadway Musical’s kid-friendly length. “Each act is less than an hour, which is perfect to keep little kids engaged,” Stork says.

More insider tips for families:

  • Buy tickets early: With Disney’s Frozen the Broadway Musical being a holiday favorite, tickets will sell out quickly. Make sure to purchase early for the best seats.
  • Matinee performances for young kids: Afternoon shows are often easier for younger children to sit through, and they can be a bit more affordable than evening performances.
  • Make a day of it. “Aurora has a great small-town vibe, but we’ve evolved into a real arts town,” Stork notes. “We’ve got a growing variety of restaurants and shops so you can plan a whole day around the performance.”
