A Look Inside Christian Heritage Academy’s Diverse, Faith-Based Community

Christian Heritage Academy serves preschool-12th-grade students from over 40 Chicagoland communities, with a faith-based approach to learning and community life.

For many families, choosing the right school comes down to this question: Will my child be known, challenged and supported? At Christian Heritage Academy, the answer is found daily in an incredible school environment that is grounded by its faith and rich in its community.

“An education at Christian Heritage Academy is about growing roots that run deep enough for students to bear fruit in the world,” says Joseph Torgerson, Head of School, “both in their preschool through high school years, but also after they graduate — in their homes, in their communities and in their future vocations.”

Diverse students; same mission

The school serves students from preschool through 12th grade and draws families from over 40 communities, from Chicago to the Wisconsin border.

With a diverse student body and a shared spiritual foundation, CHA is intentionally built to integrate quality academics with faith. One example is GO! Week, where Middle and Upper School students spend a week each fall learning about and serving communities both locally and globally.

Academically, CHA offers a rigorous curriculum that begins not with a daycare, but with a structured, play-based preschool that sets a strong foundation for CHA’s robust K-12 academic program.

The high school’s AP and dual credit courses, as well as leadership opportunities and mentorship, offer students a path that leads to success in post-secondary education and in life. Students perform well on standardized tests, and graduates have been accepted to a range of respected colleges nationwide.

A school rooted in faith

Faculty and administrators start each day with prayer — something that’s not just symbolic, but foundational. “One hundred percent of our employees are followers of Jesus Christ,” says Torgerson. “All of our faculty view teaching as a ministry.”

That shared purpose creates a school culture of belonging and encourages participation. “Primary and secondary education should extend beyond academics to include understanding oneself and the world in order for young people to become all God made them to be,” says Rachel Mohn, Director of Marketing and Communications. “The CHA support system will help your child thrive in an environment that feels like family.”

Students are encouraged to grow not only academically but also through relationships, service and discovering their gifts.

Outside the classroom, students have access to a wide range of activities, from theater productions to mission trips to sports teams. Clubs, summer camps, chapels, mentoring programs and retreats give students chances to explore their interests and step into leadership.

Because of the school’s size, many students are involved in multiple areas throughout the year.

The best education priced affordably

CHA also wants families to know they’re committed to making education affordable. “We offer variable rate tuition plus financial aid,” Mohn says. “We are committed to affordability.”

Its Upper School has been ranked a #1 Christian high school in Illinois by Niche for eight consecutive years, the school notes. It’s also the highest-ranked non-denominational Christian K-12 school in the state.

For parents considering CHA, Mohn encourages reaching out directly: “We would love to invite you for a campus visit and connect you with a current family to hear from someone who can share their experience as you consider the best school for your child.”
