The Toys ‘R’ Us Adventure in Chicago

Families who love to play with toys will find a fun new popup in Chicago this holiday season.

Toys “R” Us and Candytopia, known for its candy-coated popups, have teamed up to create The Toys “R” Us Adventure, promising a toy-filled playland with one-of-a-kind full sensory play experiences. The popup is now open at 830 N. Michigan Ave. (which previously housed Topshop) through Jan. 26.

“As we focus on bringing a reimagined Toys ‘R’ Us to the United States, we believe this live experience coupled with our new experiential retail stores will attract families from around the world and create a unique opportunity to rediscover the magic of this beloved family brand,” said Richard Barry, CEO of Tru Kids, which owns Toys ‘R’ Us, in a news release.

The Toys “R” Us Adventure is divided into eight rooms, each with a special theme and hands-on activities perfect for kids ages 2-8. Expect to see some familiar toy vendors such as Melissa & Doug and Paw Patrol, along the way. Parents can join in on the fun too with a zip line or jumping in the massive ball pit (we’re not kidding — it takes over the entire top floor of this location).

The experience took us a little more than an hour to experience. For parents who grew up on Toys “R” Us, this is a great spot to feel like a kid again while making some new family memories. Don’t forget to spend some time in the toy shop to pick up an early holiday gift. You might even run into the beloved brand’s giraffe mascot, Geoffrey!

While tickets are pricey, we say it’s more worth it for your younger kiddos compared to previous popups in the Chicago area. (Most of these popups do have Groupon deals and we’ll share them on our Instagram if we see any for this one). The staff on site were also very helpful and interactive to make the experience even more special for the whole family.

A similar adventure will open this week in Atlanta. After the holidays, the popups will spread to other cities nationwide.
