What advice do you have for finding the right summer camp for your kid?

Jenny: The reality for many Chicago families is we have to enroll our kids in multiple camps to cover the entire summer. When choosing the right camp consider Loves & Logistics. What is your kid interested in right now: skateboarding, soccer, art. Chances are there is a summer camp in the city that focuses on this. Next, logistics: make sure the drop off and pick up time aligns with your family’s lifestyle.

Dana: Think about your child’s personality, interests, and how they handle new environments. Some kids thrive in a structured, activity-packed camp, while others do better in a more relaxed setting. I recommend talking to other parents—word of mouth is everything when it comes to finding a great camp! That said, always do your own research too. Checking out the camp’s website is a great starting point, but don’t be afraid to call and ask if you can tour the camp or, at the very least, get detailed information about their staff, safety protocols, and daily schedules.

Which local summer camps have you enjoyed the most and what made them stand out?

Jenny: Comprehensive Learning Services has a summer enrichment program that combines social emotional skills, fun activities and academic enrichment. It’s not often you find a camp where your kid can prevent the summer slide and have a great time.

Dana: I would 20/10 recommend Banner Day Camp as an amazing day camp option. The staff members are beyond incredible at making campers feel supported and encouraged, the activities are thoughtfully designed, and the energy there is unmatched. Not to mention, the grounds are gorgeous, well kept, and the variety of experiences offered is bar none. Banner provides the perfect mix of structured activities and free play, creating an unforgettable summer in the warmest, most kind, and welcoming environment.

Are there any camps you’d recommend for specific interested like sports, art or STEM? Why do you recommend it?

Jenny: Absolutely! Skateboarding: Chicago Skateboard School where kids will not only learn how to skateboard but learn woodshop as well. Their hands-on approach is perfect for ages 5-16. STEM: Camp Galileo has multiple locations around the city and burbs. Each week has a theme that empowers the campers to create their own inventions. Art: FAME Art Center in the South Loop. Has camps that focus on the power of art. From musical theater to tech. Campers learn the front and back of the house of theater

Dana: I’m sure there are great camps that cater specifically to each interest, but when I say Banner Day Camp is an incredible all-around option for kids who love sports, art, and/or STEM, I mean it. Their programs and activities are truly special—whether it’s water sports, creative arts, or hands-on STEM projects, there’s something for every child to explore. The camp as a whole is very well-rounded, giving kids the chance to discover new passions in a fun and supportive environment.
