Guy Stehley, president of Summit Fresh Ice Cream and Gelato in Libertyville, could tell you a thing or two about ice cream flavors.
After several taste testing experiences, incorporating expert advice and doing a bit of research of his own, Stehley offers what children and adults with nut allergies have been seeking but didn’t think was possible—totally nut-free ice cream.
The nut-free zone at the Victorian shop can offer up to"40 different flavors of ice cream at any given time,” says Stehley. That doesn’t count the 16 flavors of gelato.
In addition, Stehley allows customers to do a little participating of their own. Ice cream lovers can request new flavors and watch them be made for the first time. The customer-created flavors sometimes even make it to the regular menu.
“We make all our ice cream on site,” says Stehley."All of our products are all natural.”
And while Stehley says he loves working with the customers and his employees, one of the most rewarding parts of his job is watching a child come in who is experiencing ice cream for the first time.
