Get kids to eat their veggies

Whether your family has always been vegetarian or you just want them to eat healthier, Veggie Fest in Naperville offers cooking demonstrations and fun activities for families. This year’s Veggie Fest will feature a vegetarian food court, demonstrations by chefs from some of the top vegetarian restaurants and a children’s tent and activities.

About 100 vendors are expected and booths run the gamut of possibilities for a healthy lifestyle. Many of the expected 20,000 visitors aren’t vegetarian but are coming to the fest to learn more about this way of life, says Jonathan Kruger, fest team manager."We’ll have about 15 speakers who will be talking about vegetarianism from all angles and themes.”

Cooking demos, held on both days, will include Mexican, Indian, Chinese and Thai vegetarian food as well as how to juice, prepare raw foods and make kid-friendly meals.

One of the most popular areas of the fest is the meditation tent, where visitors of all ages can learn how to meditate. The meditation tent is not religion-based, but instead is designed to teach visitors about the inner and outer peace that meditation can provide.

Veggie Fest will be held Aug. 8-9 at 4S 175 Naperville-Wheaton Road, Naperville. Hours are 11 a.m.-8 p.m. Aug. 8 and 11 a.m.-7 p.m. Aug. 9. The event is free and includes all the demonstrations and workshops held throughout the day. For more information, visit www.veggiefest
