Most Diverse Places to Live in Cook County

These are the most diverse towns in Cook County, according to Niche.

Choosing a diverse place to raise a family can impact the way a child sees the world. 

Niche, a website offering rankings and statistics on towns, schools and colleges, recently released its  2024 Most Diverse Places to Live. It offers a look at the most diverse places for people with kids in Cook County to call home based on a variety of factors.

These statistics were calculated based on ethnic and economic diversity statistics by city from the U.S. Census. You can find the full methodology here.

Top 10 most diverse places in Cook County

Chicago

  • Average home value: $304,500
  • Population: 2,721,914

Chicago, the most populous city in Illinois, is home to a bustling epicenter of different cultures and communities.  Chicago also ranks tenth on the most diverse cities in America list from Niche. 

Alsip

  • Average home value: $198,600
  • Population: 18,866

This dense, suburban city boasts good parks and recreation options for the whole family and offers above average public schools. 

Chicago Heights

  • Average home value: $134,600
  • Population: 27,366

Chicago Heights has four sister cities based in Ghana, Mexico, Poland and Italy. Sister Cities are an agreement between two cities to promote and exchange culture, and Chicago Heights has thrown festivals celebrating its sister cities. 

South Chicago Heights 

  • Average home value: $121,500
  • Population: 3,986

This smaller suburb of Chicago packs a diverse set of local cultures between its borders. It scores a “B+” from Niche in the outdoor activities, cost of living and commuting categories, too. 

Lansing

  • Average home value: $158,300
  • Population: 28,713

Many young professionals call Lansing home. This suburb offers a dense suburban feel and most residents own their own homes.

 

Midlothian

  • Average home value: $182,300
  • Population: 14,200

Along with a diverse population, Midlothian boasts a historical museum, a prairie reserve, a minor league baseball team, a large athletic park and a well attended country club. 

Skokie

  • Average home value: $362,500
  • Population: 67,076

Skokie’s excellent library, nature centers, heritage museums, large mall and sculpture park have attracted a diverse mix of residents. 

Blue Island

  • Average home value: $164,300
  • Population: 22,934

This suburb offers a diverse mix of restaurants and bars in its downtown core as well as the Blue Island Park District

Justice

  • Average home value: $228,600
  • Population: 12,525

Families looking for a diverse place to raise a family will find highly rated public schools and safe neighborhoods in Justice. 

Streamwood

  • Average home value: $244,100
  • Population: 39,556

Streamwood’s access to the park systems is top notch and its public schools are rated better than average.
