Location
Prairie Center for the Arts
210 Schaumburg Court

Description
The one-hour program serves as a primer for kids who have had limited exposure to live symphonic music. The concert's key piece is Benjamin Britten's Young Person's Guide to the Orchestra, a work based on a theme by Henry Purcell that highlights symphonic instruments and sections within each variation. The program also includes the overture from Suppe's opera Poet and Peasant, Holst's Military Suite No. 2, and Rimsky Korsakov's “Dance of the Tumblers” from The Snow Maiden. Pre-concert activities include an instrument petting zoo and a selfie wall featuring a concert hall backdrop. Kids also will get a chance to try their hand at conducting orchestra members in playing short excerpts from famous classical works. A dessert reception after the concert allows the audience to mingle with the evening's artists.
