Featuring an array of artists, organizations, and small businesses, the Reader’s Inaugural Pride Block Party aims to be an intergenerational, cross-community effort to honor the people doing the work in Chicago to amplify LGBTQ+ people and stories, as well as pay homage to Chicago’s queer history and the icons who made it possible.Â
Start the day with family-friendly programming, get your heart rate up with dance lessons and DJ sets including salsa, step and house, give snaps to Young Chicago Authors (YCA) Queeriosity slam poets, get your drag history on with Chicago’s Drag Mom Lucy Stoole and a cast of intergenerational queens, bop to the beats of Chicago’s emerging queer hip hop prodigies, and close it all out with a musical dedication to LGBTQ+ icon Janet Jackson performed by the all-women and trans band Femme Slash with surprise special guests.
