Schaumburg School District 54 is the largest elementary school district in Illinois. The district serves more than 15,000 students from the communities of Schaumburg, Hoffman Estates, Elk Grove Village, Hanover Park, Roselle, Streamwood and Rolling Meadows. The district operates 21 elementary schools, five junior high schools and one K-grade 8 community school. 

  • Key features: Schaumburg School District 54 is funded at 87 percent adequacy based on the Evidence Based Funding formula used by the state of Illinois. The district’s 28 schools all fall into the “exemplary” or “commendable” designation, the top two highest designations. The district is focused on educating the whole child. This approach begins with early intervention through its award-winning early childhood center and free, full day kindergarten at all 21 elementary schools.

How to register your child at Schaumburg School District 54

To register a child at Schaumburg School District 54, parents should begin the process through the parent portal. For families with students just starting kindergarten or transferring schools, parents should fill out an online application through the portal. Parents can also visit the district’s Welcome to Kindergarten page for more information. 

Parents who are interested in an Open Enrollment school will still need to submit an application. Interested parents can reach the district enrollment department directly through their email: openenrollment@sd54.org

Necessary documents for registering at Schaumburg School District 54

  • Proof of residence – parents need to submit one residency document (lease, mortgage or tax bill) as well as two utility bills. 
  • Original birth certificate 
  • Guardian’s driver’s license
  • Immunization records – more information is available about the state’s immunization mandates

Schaumburg School District 54 lists the most important open enrollment dates for parents below: 

  • January 22, 2025 – Open Enrollment Fair from 6-7:30 p.m. at the District 54 Professional Learning Center, 522 E. Schaumburg Road in Schaumburg.
  • January 22, 2025 – Online registration begins for new District 54 students at sd54.org/registration
  • February 28, 2025 – Deadline for parents or guardians to file open enrollment applications.
  • March 14, 2025 – Date for open enrollment schools to send letters inviting students to attend their school.
  • April 4, 2025 – Deadline for parents or guardians to accept the school’s invitation. The letter you receive will include a link to accept the invitation. If you cannot locate the letter, please contact the school.
