What Parents Need to Know About Indian Prairie District 204’s Major Upgrades

Indian Prairie School District 204 is investing in new curriculum, facility upgrades, and community programs to support 25,000 students.

Indian Prairie Community Unit School District 204’s top priority is to help students reach their full potential. 

To reach that goal, the district is investing in new curriculum, updating its facilities and providing more community programming for its parents and caregivers. As the third largest district in the state, the district is responsible for educating roughly 25,000 students.

The district boasts a 95 percent graduation rate and an effective early learning program, plus 69 percent of teachers have a master’s degree or higher. 2. New middle school English curriculum

Last year, a new English curriculum for middle schoolers was piloted. The new curriculum, based on the CommonLit 360 program, generated positive feedback from teachers and students. 

The new curriculum is also aligned with state standards. It will cost roughly $220,000 for a five-year license and teaching materials, reports the Chicago Tribune

3. $40 million facilities investment passed by voters

In 2023, a facilities assessment was conducted on district buildings to begin a strategic plan for improvements. The assessment found six main areas for improvement: air quality, natural lighting, updated technology, student comfort, creating a modern learning environment and improving feelings of safety and security. 

Stakeholders also emphasized the need for improved special education spaces and fitness rooms. 

Voters showed overwhelming support for the referendum on the November 2024 ballot. The district will begin to invest $40 million in improvements to facilities this year. 

4. Facilities master plan kicks into gear

Now that the $40 million facilities investment is approved, the district has announced its timeline

First up on the list of priorities is creating safer entrance points for elementary and middle schools. Lighting improvements to different buildings will also be made. 

Waubonsie Valley High School is slated to undergo construction to modernize the theater. Plus, the high school will begin designing upgrades to the athletic spaces, library, cafeteria and commons. 

5. Information sessions for English Language Learner families

English Language Learners (ELL) and their families at Indian Prairie School District 204 have the opportunity to learn more about the upcoming mandated ACCESS 2.0 testing

ELL students will sit for the exams between January and February. Parent meetings are led by the Bilingual Parent Advisory Council (BPAC). There are many ways for parents of ELL students to get involved. Visit the district’s Programs for Parents page to learn more.
