Spring break activities in Chicago
Not sure what to do with the kids at home? Here are some great ideas to fill your family’s spring break.
- Head to an indoor play center. Beat the chill with a visit to one of Chicago’s indoor play spaces. From trampoline parks to climbing gyms, kids can burn off energy while having a blast. Parents should also consider a visit to the Pritzker Playspace located in the Chicago Children’s Museum. The play space is hosting a lights and shadows show through April 10.
- Explore the outdoors. Bundle up and embrace the winter weather with outdoor adventures like sledding, ice skating, or snowshoeing at local parks. The Chicago Park District makes it easy for families to find a park near them with wintertime activities thanks to its search tool.
- Enjoy a live show. For little ones (and parents) not too keen on spending time outdoors in the cold, consider a live theater show. During Chicago’s 2025 spring break, there are two great family friendly options: magicians Penn & Teller and the Chicago Kids Company’s performance of Sleeping Beauty.
- Soak up Chicagoland’s world class museums. Older kids may enjoy the new Frida Kahlo exhibit opening on March 29 at the Art Institute of Chicago. For younger children, consider a free trip to the Field Museum on Wednesday, March 26, as part of the museum’s Illinois Free Wednesdays program. Trying to get the kids more interested in the world around them? The Chicago Botanic Garden, located just north of the city, is a great place to explore nature up close.
