- Show up or reschedule. Even if your child is excelling, attending the conference is key to staying informed about their progress.
- Ask the right questions. Be prepared with questions about learning goals, grading systems and how you can support your child at home.
- Discuss your child’s well-being. If there are any major changes at home (e.g. new sibling, family loss, etc.), let the teacher know so they can better support your child.
- Create an action plan. Before the meeting ends, agree on clear steps to track your child’s progress and communication methods.
- Keep students accountable. For older kids, help them stay organized with an agenda to manage assignments, activities and deadlines.
