What Are the Bus Options for Skokie Schools?

Some districts in Skokie keep bus routes private only for parents and caregivers, while others publish bus routes and stops on the school’s website. Busing in several districts is free, while some charge students an annual fee.

What to know about bus options available for Skokie schools

The city of Skokie is mainly served by six school districts: Skokie School District 68, Skokie/Morton Grove School District 69, Fairview South School District 72, East Prairie School District 73, Skokie School District 73.5 and Niles Township High School District 219. 

Evanston/Skokie School District 65 and Evanston Township High School serve a portion of the city. There are also private and parochial school options for students in grades K-12. 

Skokie School District 68

This school district is made up of three elementary schools, one middle school and an early childhood center.

  • Key transportation features: District 68 operates a fleet of 17 buses serving more than 950 students every school day. The district publishes its junior high bus routes.

Skokie/Morton Grove School District 69

The district serves 1,819 students across three schools. The district’s only middle school, Lincoln Junior High School, completed construction on a brand new building in 2021.

  • Key transportation features: SD 69 contracts with North Shore Transit, the largest family owned and operated school bus company in the country, to provide transportation services for its students. The district uses the app ParentSquare to securely send important information and can be used for communications about bus routes.

Fairview South School District 72

Only one school—Fairview South Elementary School–operates in this district. 

  • Key transportation features: Bus transportation at the district is not guaranteed due to a bus driver shortage. In the past, the district has used these bus stops for students across all grades.

East Prairie School District 73

East Prairie School District 73 operates one school: East Prairie Elementary School. 

  • Key transportation features:  Bus transportation operates on a lottery system in this district. The district also provides a general bus route map. Families must pay for bus transportation directly. The fee is $205 for one student for the 2025-26 and the district offers discounts for multiple children.

Skokie School District 73.5

Skokie School District 73.5 operates one early childhood center, an elementary school and a middle school. The district educates 1,039 students overall. 

  • Key transportation features: District 73.5 offers fee-based bus service–last year, the fee was $250 per student. The district provides a map detailing which areas are covered by a bus route. Middleton and McCracken students ride buses operated through Alltown Bus Service while Meyer kindergarten students are transported by district-owned buses.

Niles Township High School District 219

Niles Township High School District 219 operates two high schools: Niles North and Niles West. Both the district’s schools are ranked as “commendable” by the state. 

  • Key transportation features: Students at both Niles North and Niles West must show their student ID to ride on the bus. Information on routes and stops for Niles North is located here and Niles West here. Niles West students can ride for free during the school’s construction period from March to May 2025.

Skokie schools keeps parents informed of bus routes and stops with a variety of tools. Some districts use apps which require a login to communicate with parents in order to keep bus routes private, while others post stops and routes on a transportation page on the site.
