What parents need to know about the Plainfield 202 High School boundary change

Plainfield School District 202 approved a high school boundary change for 2026–27. Here’s what parents need to know about assignments, grandfathering and next steps.

To address overcrowding at Plainfield North High School, Plainfield School District 202 approved a plan to adjust the high school student attendance boundary that will take effect in the 2026-27 school year. The plan will balance enrollment across the district’s four high schools.

The district said it is recommending that current 10th- and 11th-grade students should be able to stay at their current high school, with a process for families to opt in or out. Parents should look out for communication about eligibility, deadlines and necessary forms.

PSD 202 neighborhood reassignments

If you live in one of the neighborhoods being reassigned — including Arbor of Plainfield, Creekside Crossing, Fieldstone, Indian Oaks, Lewood, Renwick Place, River Point, South Pointe, Vintage Harvest and Wallin Woods — watch out for district communication on whether your child has been reassigned, how grandfathering will work and any deadlines or forms that need to be completed.

The district is postponing elementary and middle school boundary changes while it evaluates whether new construction is necessary to accommodate enrollment growth and other long-term solutions. That could mean larger class sizes and a strain on resources as the number of students is projected to grow across the district.

What about transportation?

Parents expressed concern about updates to transportation, especially for students being reassigned to schools farther from home. District administrators said they will release finalized details on bus routes, stops, ride times and safety adjustments before the plan is implemented.

Once the boundary plan is implemented, the district plans to offer information sessions and student support — including counseling services — to help make the transition as smooth as possible.

Updates and reminders for Plainfield 202 parents

  • Curricula for summer school, health resources for middle school and resources for second language acquisition are in a 30-day review period where parents can view the materials and give feedback before they are finalized.
  • Students are expected back from winter break on Jan. 6.
  • During recess, students will go outside when the temperature is 20 degrees or warmer.
  • The Black Road Library reopened Jan. 2.
