Did you know that Chicago has a history with candy? Once known as the “Candy Capital of the World,” Lemon Heads, Juicy Fruit and Tootsie Rolls all originated in the Windy City. Luckily for us, our city is packed with the coolest candy stores around!

Take a candy store tour around Chicagoland with these stops featuring your favorite brands, both modern and old-fashioned. Parents will love to take a trip down memory lane and kids will love the sugar rush.

We rounded up our favorite candy stories in Chicago and suburbs below.

Aji Ichiban Snack 

Located in Chinatown, this famous international snack chain offers a variety of Asian sweets. It’s all about the experience here to see the unique candy and maybe try something new as a family.

Amy’s Candy Bar

Owner Amy Hansen, a graduate of Chicago’s French Pastry School, has received national recognition for the signature OMG Candy Bar sold in her Lincoln Square store. The store also features rare and imported candies on the shelves (Belgian chocolate, Holland chocolate buttons, English peppermints) as well as an impressive collection of licorice from around the world. 

B&B’s Ice Cream and Candy

Both locations of this family-owned and operated chain feature candies, chocolates, Italian ice and ice cream as well as many other food options like Italian beefs and nachos.

Candyality 

Voted “Best Candy Store in Illinois” by Food Network Magazine, Candyality is home to just about any gummy, taffy, and chocolate-covered anything you can think of. The kiddos will especially love multiple flavors and colors of jelly beans. Depending on which candy you gravitate towards, the staff can “read” your personality by the kind of sweets you choose.

Candycopia

This woman-owned and family-operated store sells candy tackle boxes, chocolate gummy bears, cotton candy, caramels, toffee, malt balls and much more.

Cocoa + Co 

This spot was voted “Best Spot for Hot Chocolate” in the country by the Food Network, so you know their chocolate is good. Enjoy the chocolate bars, nuts and spreads.

Dulcelandia

  • Locations in Aurora, Chicago and Chicago Ridge

There are multiple Dulcelandia since the franchise is known as the largest distributor of Mexican candy in the Midwest. You’ll have a blast seeing all the candies, including some with chile and other spices. Kids will enjoy seeing the cool piñatas on display, too.

Fannie May Chocolates

  • Locations throughout Chicagoland

Choose from mint meltaways, chocolate assortments, buttercreams, chocolates, pixies and more at this gourmet chocolate shop and candy store.

Fill My Jar 

This cute candy shop does just what its name says, it fills the jar – packed full of handcrafted barks, toffee and caramel or other seasonal treats.

Graham’s Fine Chocolates in Wheaton

Choose from the mint meltaways, chocolate-covered strawberries or cherries, creams, caramel apples, dipped pretzels, homemade ice cream and much more.

IT’SUGAR

  • Locations in Chicago, Gurnee, Rosemont and Schaumburg

This massive candy store has a few locations in Chicagoland, but you have to check out its newest location in Downtown Chicago. The whole family will love to explore the shop with an 11-foot Ferris wheel candy display, a Chicago skyline made up of jelly beans and more photo opportunities.  

Kilwin’s

  • Locations in Arlington Heights, Chicago, Elmhurst, Evanston, Geneva, Naperville, St. Charles and Wheaton

Open since 1983, this chocolate shop offers hand-paddled fudge, many types of handmade chocolates, caramel apples and corns, brittle and homemade ice cream. A River North location is coming soon.

L.A. Burdick Handmade Chocolates

Enjoy handmade chocolates, including the award-winning chocolate mice, chocolate bars, hot chocolate mixes and so much more. They also have European pastries and gourmet drinks to enjoy while you’re there.

Long Grove Confectionery

Stop by to try their signature confection, the Giant Myrtle, which is fresh roasted salted nuts in a buttery copper kettle cooked caramel topped with rich chocolate. Also, dipped peanuts, meltaways and more.

Ma and Pa’s Candy 

Long Grove is already a charming little town, so it’s fitting that it has a classic candy store. The barrels full of classic candy will get the whole family excited. Good luck choosing from the assortment of flavors for gummies, jelly beans and licorice.

Mr. Kite’s The Chocolate Shop

Mr. Kite’s has served the chocolate lovers of Chicago since 1987. From chocolate, pastries and ice cream to chocolate strawberries, candy apples and more, there’s something for everyone.

Naper Nuts & Sweets

This candy store features sour gummies, jelly bellies, fruit slices, licorice, fudge, truffles, nostalgic items, gum, chocolates and of course, nuts.

Nut & Candy 

Shop candy taffy apples, toffee, clusters, chocolate-covered almonds or cashews, colored-filled licorice, super sour gummy bears, dried fruit, dipped chocolate pretzels and much more.

Old Fashioned Candies

Check out this shop to find penny candy, deluxe chocolates, popcorn and more. Kids can look at all the old-school candies on display, including candy buttons and Baby Bottle Pops. The store in the Western Suburbs is also known for its chocolate-covered strawberries.

Riverside Chocolate Factory

This shop offers customers freshly dipped chocolate strawberries, sea salt caramels, cashew turtle pretzel, peanut butter rice crispy treats, caramel apples and even chocolate bacon. Make sure to check out the homemade fudge, too.

Rocket Fizz 

This unique candy store sells candy from all over the world, salt water taffy, nostalgic candy, soda, tin signs and much more. 

Sugar Factory

This candy haven doesn’t hold back on sweets. The restaurant is known for its smoking goblets, chocolate-dipped sprinkle-covered milkshakes and scoops of ice cream. But kids will really enjoy the store, complete with bins of gummy bears, jelly beans and just about every chocolate-covered candy under the sun. 

Rocky Mountain Chocolate Factory

  • Locations throughout Chicagoland

Shop boxes chocolates, caramels, truffles, toffee, caramel popcorn, caramel apples and even dipped dog bones. 

SUGOi SWEETS 

This artisan chocolate/confection store in Chicago was opened in 2019. Shop chocolate bars, caramels, nougats and of course, bonbons. Their bonbon flavors include Cotton Candy Pop Rock, Coconut Almond, Mexican Hot Chocolate, Matcha, Yuzu, Raspberry Rose, Cherry Pistachio, Beer Pretzel, Guava Cheesecake, Mango Passion Caramel and much more.
