Getting Ready to Tread the Fox in our Tippy Canoe
June 11, 2010
My son and I participated in the 49th Mid-American Canoe & Kayak Race on the Fox River last Sunday. “Hey Noah, I heard about this canoe race…” I ventured, a few days before. “You and me, Mom!” he shouted, high-fiving me. Kids say the darnest things.
May 6, 2010
Whenever I need a good belly laugh I recall the fleeting moments when my muses comments inspired me to take notes with whatever was handy. My daughter Holly went through a particularly funny phase. These are among the ‘best of’ my funny-girl’s moments, and they still make me smile.
Parenting Isn't for Sissies | What's your family's story?

Census forms and television shows like NBC’s “Who do you think you are?” has prompted my family to re-examine our origins.
April 21, 2010
Did you happen to catch that episode of NBC’s new prime-time show “The Parenthood” where Julia, a working mom in a rush to get to a meeting, endures the brazenness of another mom who sneaks in front of her in the car drop-off lane at her daughter’s elementary school? I can relate!
West Virginia mining tragedy struck a chord with my family

You know how every now and then you experience a confluence of events that really make you think? Such was the case for us, recently.
