My son and I participated in the 49th Mid-American Canoe & Kayak Race on the Fox River last Sunday. “Hey Noah, I heard about this canoe race…” I ventured, a few days before. “You and me, Mom!” he shouted, high-fiving me. Yes! And I didn’t even have to talk him into it. You see, I have an unrequited love of paddling.

“I love this! You’re gonna sell it?” my daughter Holly exclaimed.
I cringed as she admired the yellow bud vase I’d hoped to unload in our garage sale last month. Deciding it will look great in her bedroom after the room is painted baby blue, she promptly peeled off the price-tag. The vase wasn’t the only thing reclaimed.

Letting you kids potentially "fail" can be uncomfortable, but if they don't have an experience of failing, it's a tough lesson to learn later in life.

My kids both play soccer, so our Saturdays are spent driving from pillar to post and cheering from the sidelines. It's a blast -- unless it’s your turn to bring the half-time snack and you drop the ball.

Whenever I need a good belly laugh I recall the fleeting moments when my muses comments inspired me to take notes with whatever was handy. My daughter Holly went through a particularly funny phase. These are among the ‘best of’ my funny-girl’s moments, and they still make me smile.
