Visitors can discover the Pacific white-sided dolphins, beluga whales and sea lions in the Abbott Oceanarium and get a view from below after watching the multi-species aquatic show. In the Polar Play Zone, kids can get a diver's eye view of all kinds of aquatic life, including penguins, sea otters, Pacific white-sided dolphins and beluga whales, plus they can touch a live sea star. Explore the Waters of the World in Shedd’s original galleries, see sharks swim around in the Wild Reef exhibit, feel a stingray in the seasonal Stingray Touch pool or stroke prehistoric sturgeon at the At Home on the Great Lakes gallery. For an extra fee, take a behind-the-scenes tour, become an animal trainer for a day, or get up-close to the penguins or beluga whales. Food is available at the aquarium's restaurants, or bring your own. Public, paid parking lots are located nearby on the museum campus or take public transportation. Shedd offers discount days for Illinois residents, but avoid the long lines by purchasing tickets online in advance. Be prepared for crowds in the exhibits on free days.
