Be whooshed through 10,000 years of Lake County history, meet an 11-foot tall mastodon and check out the world's largest collection of picture postcards. Explore the prairie themed Children's Learning Gallery, for kids 10 and under featuring a variety of hands-­on activities including a puppet log, leaf-blowing stump and interactives designed to encourage exploration, help kids develop motor skills, express their creativity and learn about nature. The Children's Learning Gallery is occasionally closed for education programs; call 847-968-3400 for daily hours. The museum is located in Lakewood, Lake County's largest forest preserve, with picnic shelters, fishing ponds and trails.
