Seventeen hands-on interactive exhibits for children ages birth to 8, including Car Care, Pet Vet, Dominick’s Supermarket and Ravinia Music Makers, as well as a 2-acre outdoor exhibit, Habitat Park. Bring a chance of clothes--kids may get wet at the Water Works exhibit, even with a smock on. Three infant areas provide a safe place for babies to explore. Cosi's cafe in the museum offers an easy lunch option, with kid-friendly food items. Visit Egg to Chicks (through June 16) to see live Black and White Java chicks hatching and growing. Japan and Nature: Spirits of the Seasons (through July 14) allows children to discover how nature is reflected and celebrated through traditional Japanese activities. Science + You (opening July 28) is a child-sized laboratory in which kids can explore equipment like microscopes, glove boxes and centrifuges, and learn about health topics including nutrition and antibodies.
