Activities, demonstrations and performances provide opportunities for visitors to learn about Japan’s summer festivals (matsuri). Demonstrations in the McGinley Pavilion feature the following: a tea ceremony by the Urasenke Chicago Association at 10:30 a.m.; traditional storytelling by Anne Shimojima at 11:30 a.m.; taiko drumming by Kokyo Taiko at 12:30 p.m.; and koto harp music by the Chicago Koto Group at 1:30 p.m. Traditional craft projects geared toward children include uchiwa paper fans, Japanese kites and gyotaku fish prints.
