This 26-mile multi-use trail follows a former railway line that stretches from the McHenry County line in Algonquin to the Wisconsin state border connecting eight McHenry County communities. The Prairie Trail provides access to over 100 miles of trail network including the Fox River Trail, the Great Western Trail and the Illinois Prairie Path. The Prairie Trail's main access points are located north of Algonquin, along Main Street in Crystal Lake, at Petersen Park in McHenry, and in Glacial Park north of Ringwood. There are also several scenic and recreational stopping points along the trail, including the Fox River and Larsen Prairie.
