This 26-mile multi-use trail follows a former railway line that
stretches from the Kane County line in Algonquin to the Wisconsin
state border connecting eight McHenry County communities. The
Prairie Trail provides access to over 100 miles of trail network
including the Fox River Trail, the Great Western Trail and the
Illinois Prairie Path. The Prairie Trail's main access points are
located north of Algonquin, along Main Street in Crystal Lake, at
Petersen Park in McHenry, and in Glacial Park north of Ringwood.
There are also several scenic and recreational stopping points
along the trail, including the Fox River and Larsen Prairie.
