Chicago Youth in Music Festival
220 South Michigan Ave.
Hours: Jan. 14-Feb. 4, 2013
This 11-day festival is spearheaded by the Chicago Symphony Orchestra's director Riccardo Muti and creative consultant Yo-Yo Ma. That's about as good as it gets when it comes to creative pedigree, and the result is a celebration that is equal parts education, entertainment and inspiration for a generation of future musicians. All concerts are free and open to the public, though seating may be limited, so call ahead. Festival highlights below; full schedule at cso.org.
