Our most amazing pediatrician was so sharp that he diagnosed my son's autism when he was just 15 months old. My son Chris was developmentally delayed from birth and in EI programs by 3 mos of age. However, no one really knew the depth and severity of his issues because he was so young. Dr. Coyer said to me at Chris' 15 month check up that he was totally in his own world and appeared autistic. I was in denial at the time and did not take it seriously but Dr. Coyer was 100% right as Chris went on to be diagnosed as severely autistic and MR before the age of 2 by the Univ of Chicago Devpmntl Disorders Clinic. Today Chris is 14, autistic and completely non-verbal. I thank my very sharp pediatrician for recognizing this very serious disorder at such a young age....I was extremely lucky to be able to get Chris into many therapies and programs before he was 2! Truly an amazing pediatrician who has cared for all 5 of my children (now ages 7-16) over the last 16 years.
