the best way to learn baby sign!!By becky martinez on Tuesday, July 26, 2011 This is class is a must! Wendy is amazing-she made the class fun for both my kids and myself! It's the perfect length of time. It's a great mix of music, hands on play, story and parent discussion. The class size was small so everyone got attention and it wasn't overwhelming for anyone. There was a range of ages so even though my little ones weren't yet signing (only 9 months old) it was really cool to see the older kids doing it! I'm so glad we did it! |
Great classBy Shelly on Tuesday, July 26, 2011 I just finished taking the Baby Signs class with Wendy and my 18mth old daughter. The only reget is that we didn't do it sooner. Makenna already had a few key signs prior to the course so I was hesitant to take the course because I wasn't sure how much we would get out of it. I was pleasantly surprised, the signs Wendy focused on were signs that you encounter on a daily basis and her knowledge not only of signing but also childhood language development was so comforting. Makenna absolutely loved the pace of the class, the songs and especially Bee-Bo. I would recommend this class to anyone intersted in being able to better communicate with your young one!! |
My Baby Can Sign!!!By Valerie, Annabelle's mom on Tuesday, July 26, 2011 We LOVED this class! I read the Baby Signs book before signing up for the class. The book is great, but it cannot compare to taking the class with such a knowledgeable instructor. I cannot believe how much we learned (not just my baby, but me as well). My daughter was about 9-10 months old when we took the class. She started to pick up on the signs in the last 3 weeks of class, but she enjoyed the songs and activities throughout the entire 6-week session. Wendy is a wonderful instructor. She is enthusiastic about what she is teaching, and it shows. She is extremely patient and easy going. She has a mellow disposition which is appealing to the little ones. You can see how the infants respond to her, and that helps keep their attention. She offers her perspective both as a language specialist and as a parent. The class format is extremely conducive to learning for the target age group. Lots of age appropriate toys and activities are available throughout the class period to keep the little ones occupied. Also, for very active babies (like mine), we are able to still learn and conduct the class productively while the babies explore all the "stations" Wendy sets up. The worksheets we receive from each class are extremely useful both in and out of class. I was able to share the information with my husband so he could learn to sign as well. The worksheets are easy to follow and include fun songs and illustrations to help parents learn. Finally, my daughter really enjoys signing. She is now 12 months, and she has shown us more than 15 signs. At this point, she uses about 8 on a regular basis. We have been fairly consistent with certain signs we practice or use often. However, she picked up more than I realized from the class we took. I had been doing a few signs for my daughter that I learned from reading the book since she was about 6 months old. Her first sign wasn't until she was 10 months old. Surprisingly to me, her first sign was not one that I had been practicing for months. It was "light", which we learned in our second Baby Signs class with Wendy. She also picked up on other signs that we learned in class that I never really emphasized at home or practiced with her. One day, I asked her if she wanted to take a bath and she did the sign for bath on her own (I had never practiced that sign with her outside of class). I highly recommend Sign, Say and Play or any Baby Signs class with Wendy Auffant. They are exceptional classes and your baby will have fun playing and learning the signs (as will you)!!! |
Great classes!By Dawn on Tuesday, July 26, 2011 We enjoyed Wendy's Baby Signs classes. She is very kind, patient, and enthusiastic about what she is teaching. She uses songs and play to teach the signs for that class which make learning enjoyable and memorable. I would recommend her class to anyone wanting to be learn how to communicate with their baby at a young age. It helps to take the frustration and guesswork out of what your baby wants and is trying to tell you! Dawn www.youravon.com/dtakagi |

I first brought my daughter to Wendy's baby signs class when she was 10 months old. I truly could not believe how quickly she picked up signing. Wendy's approach is friendly, enthusiastic and engaging. Olivia loved the music, toys and books, and it was obvious from the beginning that she was watching and listening and learning. We both love the group/social atmosphere as well! We've taken almost every class that Wendy has offered (hope to do the potty training class soon), and Olivia, who is now 17 months old, signs about 50-60 words (and verbally speaks about 15-20 now). I can see how proud she is of herself when she communicates something to us, and it makes such a difference to really understand what she wants and needs. I would recommend Wendy's class to anyone who is interested in exploring baby signs - informative, educational, and SO fun!
