Sure, the playground you love and visit most will be the one closest to home, but isn't it nice to know wherever you travel with kids in the city, you'll be near a spiffy public playground to sweeten the outing? There are more than 500 playgrounds in Chicago. What's your favorite?

1919 N. Seminary
Wend your way across Armitage and up a quiet, dead-end section of
Seminary and you'll find this unexpected treasure of a playlot.
Though small, this beautifully landscaped, soft-surface,
ADA-accessible lot has all sorts of bells and whistles. Anchored by
a fieldhouse at one end that has public restrooms and rentable
party rooms, the lot has a tree-shaded picnic area, kid-sized
basketball bucket with plenty of rubber balls to shoot and an
umbrella-sheltered sand play area full of shovels, dump trucks and
digging toys. There's a section of swings, jungle gym and climbing
area, and at the far end-though you might have to wait until next
summer to try-a water playground with multiple slides and fountain
features.
Mt. Greenwood Rocks!By Donna Plocharczyk on Monday, October 11, 2010 Hi! I love Mt. Greenwood's new playground! My HUSBAND is disabled with Muscular Dystrophy. This newly designed playground made it possible for him to totally interact with my seven year old! It was priceless! Even when we shook him on the "shipshaped" rocker ride! Totally awesome place! |
Northside Park in WheatonBy Lori Smerz on Monday, October 11, 2010 Nestled in a neighborhood, this park has a lot to offer. There are two playsets, one for young toddlers and one for older children. There is even a ramp for wheelchairs or other assitance equipment. There are several swings, spinning rides and a sand area. There is a path that loops around the lagoon and soccer fields and it is 90% stroller friendly. Outside the playground area, is a public pool, fishing pond and tennis courts. There are plenty of tables and pavilions for sitting or picnics. It is easy to spend an hour or two at this park. |
Playground Palooza!By Heather Earnhart on Monday, October 11, 2010 I second Indian Boundary for a change instead of another trip to the zoo. Berger is definitely the best city and water view, and the shakes at the cafe are great! Lane Beach park is great for combining playground and beaching. Margate Park is always a favorite meet-up park because of it's large size, parking lot, and close proximity to the lakefront path. Happy playgrounding everyone! |

Lack of fun!
By SanDee on Monday, October 11, 2010
My neighborhood seems to have been left out on all the playground fun! We don't have any cool parks such as those listed anywhere near our area. I hope one day we can provide our neighborhood children will have this opportunity.
