It’s not a surprise that we’re suckers for dancing kids in any context. But put them in the beauty of the Chicago Botanic Garden and add in some delicious eats (and wine for mommy) and we’re completely sold.
That, in a nutshell, is what Dancin’ Sprouts is all about: free musical entertainment for the kiddos, while parents chow down on food they purchase on site or bring in a picnic basket (your littles will probably want a bite, too). And the garden books some of our area’s favorite musicians!
This month, enjoy the musical stylings of Mr. Singer & The Sharp Cookies (July 12), a rock band with a few surprises; bilingual kindie group Moona Luna (July 19); and Farmer Jason (July 26), whose unique brand of Americana will get your toes tapping.
The concerts take place on the normally picnic-free Esplanade, which is basically the ideal spot for enjoying an outdoor concert with lots of audience participation. Dancin’ Sprouts continues through August with an eclectic mix of musicians, so you’re sure to find a concert that’s perfectly fitted to your family’s musical tastes.
Once you’re done busting a move and downing that rosé, stop by the always-popular Model Railroad Garden, which stays open until 8 p.m. on Wednesdays for maximum family participation, post-concert.
Trains, tunes and time spent in a gorgeous garden? We’ll see you there.
