Inquiry. Excitement. Integrity. These are the hallmarks of an education at The Children's School, an independent K-8 elementary school located in the near west suburbs of Chicago. As progressive educators, we engage children in hands-on learning, creative problem-‐solving, and cooperative decision-‐making. Our students work both individually and collaboratively to explore topics of interest within a diverse, literature-‐rich curriculum that nurtures their intellectual curiosity. They delve into extended, multidisciplinary projects that demonstrate their learning, such as building a farm (K), filming a 1940s-‐style newsreel (3rd grade), or investigating the technological evolution of cameras and film (5th grade). Learning culminates for 8th graders in a yearlong Capstone Project that they design and execute with faculty guidance. Students also investigate the world beyond the school walls, learning what it means to be citizens in the 21st century. Curriculum includes instruction in art, language, library, physical education, and music. At The Children's School, children are given the opportunity and the responsibility to become caring individuals, reflective thinkers, and lifelong learners.
We strive every day to honor children's voices and to celebrate the joy of learning. Join us for an Open House or individual tour and discover what makes The Children's School special: tourrequest@TheChildrensSchool.info
