Warren W. Cherry Preschool, is a part-day preschool program based on a core philosophy of child-centered, developmental education and community service. Cherry Preschool is an advocate for all children in our community and an advocate for early childhood education that is inclusive, caring, and respectful of all people. The preschool brings children of all abilities and backgrounds together to play and grow.
Our curriculum teaches children to value and respect themselves and others. Our responsibility as early childhood educators is to teach understanding and acceptance so young children feel proud of themselves and their heritage, challenge bias or unfairness when they encounter it, and become good citizens of our diverse community.
Including children with special needs in our preschool classes not only benefits children with special needs, but also teaches all children to accept and appreciate every child as a unique and valued member of society. Our Latino Parent/Child Class, taught in Spanish is offered to children whose home language is Spanish.
Cherry Preschool is named after Warren W. Cherry to honor the memory of an outstanding Evanston educator, community leader, and friend of young children. The school is located in a red brick building at 1418 Lake Street in Evanston, one half block east of Penny Park. The school is licensed by the Illinois Department of Children and Family Services and accredited by the National Academy of Early Childhood Programs.
