Two years ago, Denise Henderson found herself an unlikely entrepreneur. The organic baby "superfoods" she had been whipping up in her own kitchen for her son, who has dairy and soy allergies, were suddenly hitting the shelves of north suburban grocery stores.
And the self-described superfood "junkie" had so much she wanted to tell parents about her product.
"So obviously, recording a CD was the next logical step," says the River Forest mom with a laugh.
Henderson's husband, Jeff, a musician, had played some shows with a 22-year-old singer-songwriter from Mt. Prospect named Lee DeWyze. He made a phone call, booked some studio time, and popped out a five-track CD.

Two years later, Square One Organic baby food is being sold in Jewel-Osco stores, and DeWyze is one of eight remaining finalists on "American Idol." DeWyze has wowed the judges with his performances, and remains a front-runner as the competition enters the home stretch.
And if his performance of "Vitamin A" (click below to listen) is any indication, this midwestern rocket has superstar written all over him.
The entire Square One Organics CD is available for purchase on iTunes.

Charlotte, NC American Idol Concert tour

I am LONG past baby food days but Lee has impressed me greatly with his talent and modesty. I am just praying that he will sing Hallelujah and A Simple Man at the concert. Hallelujah should be his first major release. I've never heard it sung as well as he did.
