Pregnant? Bump up your social life

If you're the first girl in your group to get pregnant, you may find your social life coming to a screeching halt as your life veers in a different direction than your non-pregnant friends. Sure, there'll be plenty of moms groups to join once the baby arrives, but who do you compare notes with about being pregnant when you're the only one?

A new club in Chicago is hoping to connect moms-to-be in the city by creating events just for pregnant women. Bump Club Chicago kicks off with two events in April and more scheduled for the upcoming months, all designed to get pregnant women together someplace besides hospital birthing classes.

"You can go online and get all kinds of information, but I think a lot of people have lost that face-to-face connection," says Lindsay Pinchuk, founder of Bump Club Chicago. "It's important for pregnant women to lean on each other and support each other."

The club will host expectant mom dinners and seminars at least once a month, primarily in the Loop. "It's to build this community downtown. A lot of moms-to-be think they have to move to the suburbs because there's no resource in the city, so I want to be that resource," Pinchuk says. Once the baby is born the goal is to branch off into moms' groups on a smaller scale, based on neighborhoods so women don't have to travel far with babies in tow.

On April 3, the group will meet from noon-2 p.m. at The Dailey Method, 1714 N. Damen Ave., to learn how to modify conditioning and exercising when you're pregnant. On April 15, they will meet at Preggers, 900 N. Michigan Ave., for a girls' night out shopping event. Both events are free but require registration online. An expectant moms' dinner will be held in early May and will focus on navigating the baby registry process.

For more information about the group or to register, visit the Web site or e-mail Pinchuk at Lindsay@bumpclubchicago.com.
