If you're heading to Navy Pier this summer, your lunch and
dinner options have just grown. Whether you are a fan of baseball
or a fan of juicy burgers, Harry Caray's Tavern aims to
The new Harry Caray's Tavern location at
Navy Pier offers the same family-friend menu baseball-themed fun as
its River North location.
Located on the pier's west end, just across from the Chicago
Children's Museum, the tavern is actually a really family-friendly
restaurant. I'm sure summer weather will prompt families to wait
for one of the many outdoor patio tables, but the interior rooms
are quite spacious and comfortable. Plus, that's where you'll find
the eatery's signature pictures and memorabilia. From the moment we
walked in, my sons had a ball spotting and naming all the
celebrities and local athletes they could find. Once we sat in our
comfy booth, they were thrilled to find "Mr. Baseball" Ernie Bank's
photo just overhead.
The menu is well priced, especially by Navy Pier standards.
Burgers are $9-$15, depending on whether you want standard beef or,
perhaps, bison. Tasty 10-inch pizzas make a great lunch or
appetizer for around $10. Kids' meals are priced at $5.95 and my
8-year-old raved about the mini- cheeseburgers on brioche buns.
But really, it's the atmosphere that will draw us back to Harry
Caray's, especially since we discovered the miniature sports museum
on the way to the restrooms. We all "oohed" and "aahed" over the
signed bats and baseballs. Ron Santo's All-Star ring can be found
near Lee Smith's glove. We discovered jerseys and equipment from
many of our favorite Chicago players, past and present. We even
viewed the infamous "Bartman Ball" of Cubs shame.
Although we didn't spot any professional athletes during our
lunch, our host assured us that the restaurant has several
professional regulars, so keep your eyes open.
