If your child is ready to channel her inner comedian, spend an afternoon at comedy-sportz4kids in Chicago where kids learn the art of improv under the guidance of seasoned actors.

Every Saturday at 2 p.m. kids can attend the 50-minute show, which features ComedySportz actors and coaches who play interactive games with the audience. By the end of the show, even the shyest kids have usually joined in the act, says Matt Elwell, artistic director.

"There’s something empowering about improvisation. Kids get a sense that they can jump up onstage. It’s their creation and their ability to create that’s being celebrated," says Elwell. "By the time they finish, they feel like rock stars."

The kids’ show is based on ComedySportz’s regular show, which is targeted towards ages 12 and older. Comedysportz4kids is aimed at 7-10-year-olds, but younger siblings will enjoy watching and participating too, Elwell says. "For kids who are too young for our all-ages show, this is perfect for them."

Comedysportz4kids is located at 929 W. Belmont Ave., Chicago. Tickets are $8 and are available at (773) 549-8080 or through www.ticketmaster.com, (312) 559-1212. For more information visit, the Web site at www.comedysportzchicago.com.
