Parents can attend a theater show with kids in tow without
having to force young children to sit through a performance.
Instead, Victory Gardens Theater offers Sitter Saturdays, where
parents can drop off children with theater staff and attend the
performance in the same building.
"It's a great way of having an adult experience while your kids
are able to enjoy some educational activities," says Kate Boisseau,
Victory Gardens' arts education assistant.
Sitter Saturday activities often relate to the show, so parents
and kids can discuss the theme of the show on their way home. For
instance, when parents watched "Eurydice," a play based on Greek
mythology, children painted clay pots to look like ancient Greek
pottery. The children also acted out the story of Eurydice, with
the help of the theater's staff.
Children age 4-12 can participate in Sitter Saturdays. Parents
can make reservations when buying their theater tickets and pay $5
in cash when dropping children off. For more information, call the
box office at (773) 871-3000 or visit www.victorygardens.org.
