Ghouls, goblins … and scarecrows? At the 24th St. Charles Scarecrow Festival, you and your kids can get your hands on some straw and create your own scarecrow.

Clothes for your scarecrow are supplied but bring extra just in case a shortage occurs, says Kathy Loubsky, festival coordinator. Don't worry if you're not artistically inclined; a scouting crew comes around to assist participants.

But the festival has more than just scarecrows. Kids will enjoy a talent show of local children, interactive entertainment, crafts and face painting.

Scarecrow Fest is Oct. 9-11 in downtown St. Charles off routes 31 and 64. Hours are 9 a.m.-10 p.m. Friday-Saturday and 10 a.m.-6 p.m. Sunday. Admission is free. For more information, call (630) 377-6161 or (800) 777-4373, or visit www.scarecrowfest.com.
