Chicago's autumn weather makes for fun fall fashions for moms

I believe fall is fashion's favorite season. The fabrics, the layers, the new collections, the coziness of it all! This month, say "goodbye" to your shorts and flips and say "hello gorgeous" to autumn's most tempting trends.

When it comes to your "must-have bag" this season, splurge a little, but stick with the classics-only a little kicked up. Coach has just introduced its new "Legacy Collection" that combines 70 years of classic design with bold, beautiful colors to produce a showstopping effect.

Here are a few of my faves available from Coach stores and

Legacy leather Candice carryall, $328

Legacy leather penny shoulder purse, $198

Note: If you're going to splurge on a new fall handbag, stick with classic shapes and colors that will stay "on trend" for years to come. These fit that bill.

Playful pants

Fall 2012 is the season of the bold bottoms. Nab a pair of floral, metallic, animal print or richly colored britches and let yourself PLAY!

Don't be afraid of these beautifully subtle metallic denims, from one of my new favorite denim brands "Liverpool Jeans Company." Their line is inspired by the music of the Beatles and the pockets are lined with song lyrics. How fun is that? $79, Nordstrom

Cruella Deville would be so dang jealous.

Dalmatian-inspired pant, $12.99, H&M

This summer's "it" silhouette was the peplum. The late 1940s fitted bodice and lower-waist frill look surprisingly great on most body types. Get your Audrey Hepburn on with these:

Sleeveless Zip Top Peplum, $36,

Glamorous Dogtooth Peplum, op, $40,

Staples for your shoe rack

The Capped Toe Pump

Splurge: An oxford-inspired cap toe raises your IQ 10 points every time you slip them on. Or at least you'll feel like it. $268, in red and adobe

The Show Stopper

Save: Mixed animal print pumps are an inexpensive way to add instant interest to a neutral work suit, black pants or dark denims. Try Deena & Ozzy Pointy-Toe Pump, $59, Urban Outfitters

Splurge: Don't let these scare you. They still are classic and will make your LBD go BOOM! Eril by Vaneli, $162,
