Lights, Camera, Service! A visit to Studio Movie Grill
Thursday, August 02, 2012
You know the drill when taking your brood to the latest family flick and schlepping cartons of popcorn and drinks while trying to harangue the gang into their seats. No more! Studio Movie Grill, an upscale in-theater dining concept, has come to Wheaton and refreshments are but a button click away.
Instead of lining up at a counter for the typical movie fare, sit in a plush, comfy chair with a swivel table and summon your waiter via a red button at any time during the movie to order off an expansive menu more reminiscent of a stylish eatery than a movie theater.
Options include huge salads (try the Thai), build your-own-appetizer platters, hearty burgers, gourmet personal pizzas, sandwiches and even a cocktail if you're so inclined. For traditionalists who believe popcorn and movies go hand-in-hand, there is popcorn served beautifully and abundantly in a square black serving dish.
Little ones will love the apples and peanut butter starter as well as the soda shop-style milkshakes.
And what makes this venue even more family friendly is the pricing. Tickets are just $5 for shows that begin before noon and the food is reasonably priced.
Of course there's a downside to everything and the Studio Movie Grill is no exception: it's hard to go back to a "normal" theater once you're accustomed to the good life.
