Devin Hester plays with his son on familiar turf during a cover photo shoot earlier this year
Football is in full swing and I couldn't be happier. I'm a
little sad that I don't get to spend as much time with Devin Jr. as
I did over the summer, but it definitely feels good to be back out
on the field.
Not all is lost when it comes to spending time with Devin, though.
He's still just as happy to see me walk through the door when I get
back from the Bears practice facility. I feel the same way!
He loves playing football with me, and we have quite a few
footballs around the house.
We roll it back and forth on the ground, and I've noticed that the
regular football is HUGE for him. I laugh the entire time he's
trying to pick it up and carry it around. I figured it was about
time to make things right, so I took him out on a toy store run to
find a better-sized football.
There are a ton of toy stores in Chicago. We actually found a
perfect football at our first stop-Toys et Cetera, 1502 E. 55th St.
We went inside and I asked if they had footballs that would work
for my little man. The guy took us back to an area that featured
toys for 1-3 year olds. Devin was overwhelmed! I watched his face
as we got close to a bin full of foam footballs. His eyes got so
big. He pointed at the footballs and looked up at me. It was so
funny. This is a cool place, and they have toys for infants all the
way up to early teenagers. We'll definitely be back.
Before we left on our football excursion, I looked up different toy
stores in the area. Like I said, there are a bunch, and as long as
we were downtown I figured we'd continue our toy tour. Our next
stop was a place called Galt Toys + Galt Baby, 900 N. Michigan Ave.
They have a lot of baby stuff like strollers and cribs, but they
also have a lot of toys. Devin played forever with all of the cars,
trucks and train tracks they have there and had a small fit when it
was time to leave. Pretty cool place.
Our last stop was a place called Psychobaby, 1630 N. Damen Ave.
This is a crazy place with a ton of cool clothing for kids. Kind of
off-the-wall type of stuff when it comes to kids' T-shirts. They
also had toys, and the one thing that caught Devin's attention was
the stuffed animals and puppets. They've got some good classic
toys, too, like blocks and other toys made out of wood.
Overall, it was a fun day walking around. Just spending time
withThe boys and their toys
