Spend an afternoon nestled in a tree house perched between giant oaks at the new Hidden Oaks Nature Center in Bolingbrook. The 7,000-square-foot center includes interpretive displays and animals. It will house a preschool as well as offer programming for children, adults and families. A "green" roof lets families sit in the shade and enjoy a picnic.

The nature center is located at 419 Trout Farm Road (just up the hill from Hidden Lanes Historic Trout Farm) in Bolingbrook. Hours are 9 a.m.-5 p.m. Monday-Saturday and noon-5 p.m. Sunday. Admission is free. For information, call (630) 739-0272 or visit www.boling brookparks.org.
